Our story

Six decades of outside electrical construction.

From a small garage on Main Street in Utica to a 20,000 sq. ft. facility in Clinton, NY, Power Line Constructors has built outside electrical systems across the Northeast since 1963 — under three generations of family leadership.

Milestones

How PLC was built.

1963

PLC is founded.

Delores Critelli and Elmer Wahl co-found Power Line Constructors in a small garage on Main Street in Utica, NY. Delores serves as president and board chairman through 2002 and remains on the board through 2010.

1970

Second generation joins the field.

David L. Critelli begins his career at PLC and holds every notable position in field operations — laborer, foreman, and superintendent. He becomes chief estimator in 1980 and president in 2003.

1972

Move to Clinton, NY.

PLC relocates from Utica to a 20,000 square foot facility situated on roughly six acres on Robinson Road, where the company remains headquartered today.

1996–98

City of Syracuse signal interconnect.

PLC builds a city-wide traffic signal interconnect for Syracuse with a state-of-the-art traffic control system, allowing the city’s traffic engineers to monitor and adjust flow at approximately 140 intersections — for rush hour, emergencies, and weather conditions.

1997

Founder honored.

Founder Delores Critelli receives the Business Owners Achievement Award from Professional Women in Construction, recognizing her leadership in building PLC and her contributions to the industry.

1998

5th largest woman-owned small business in the US.

Dun & Bradstreet and Entrepreneur Magazine report that Power Line Constructors is the fifth largest woman-owned small business in the United States.

2004

$7M Albany–Schenectady interconnect.

As prime contractor, PLC completes a $7,000,000 NYSDOT traffic signal interconnect project in the Albany–Schenectady area.

2006

$8M Buffalo Thruway interconnect.

PLC begins work on an $8,000,000 traffic signal interconnect project involving the NYS Thruway’s Buffalo exits and associated NYSDOT highways.

2015
